โ DutyHourCheck: free ACGME duty-hour checker
How to export your New Innovations schedule to a calendar (iCal / webcal link)
New Innovations can give you a private calendar link (it starts with webcal:// or https://). Add that link to your phone's calendar and your shifts stay up to date on their own. Paste the same link into DutyHourCheck to check your schedule against ACGME duty-hour rules.
Find your New Innovations calendar link
- Go to Schedules > Block Scheduling > My Rotations.
- Click "Subscribe to My Schedule" (top right) and agree to the use terms.
- Click "Create iCalendar Link", copy the link in the grey box and paste it here.
- If you don't see the option, your department administrator has to turn on iCalendar for your department.
The feed contains both block rotations and assignment schedules. Multi-day rotation entries are shown as context and not counted as duty. It refreshes daily.
๐ Keep the link private.
Add it to your calendar app
- Google Calendar (on a computer): Other calendars, then the + button, then From URL. Paste the link (change
webcal://tohttps://if Google rejects it). - Apple Calendar (iPhone): Settings, Calendar, Accounts, Add Account, Other, Add Subscribed Calendar. Paste the link.
- Outlook (on the web): Add calendar, then Subscribe from web. Paste the link.
Subscribed calendars refresh on the calendar app's own schedule, which can be several hours. Check New Innovations itself before a shift swap.
Check it against duty-hour rules
Paste the link into DutyHourCheck. It flags EM shifts over 12 hours, rest shorter than the shift before it, weeks over 60 clinical or 72 total hours, no day off in 7, and more than 6 nights in a row, or the Common Program Requirements (80 hours averaged over 4 weeks, 24+4, 14 hours off after 24-hour call). The check runs in your browser and the free audit stays free.
